Drive to Santo da Serra for 2 Nights at Estalagem Serra Golf

The trip between the airport and Santo da Serra is quite short but it still gives you plenty of time to enjoy the surrounding areas. Santo da Serra is a very peculiar village and is also home of Santo da Serra Golf Course. Nearby you’ll find Poiso’s Shelter House with a good restaurant and an excellent ‘poncha’ (typical alcoholic drink) and the second highest peak in Madeira – Pico do Areeiro 1818m high – from where you can have breathtaking views on the highest peak – Pico Ruivo 1862m high – over the mountains and, from some points, over Nuns Valley. Santa Cruz, the fishing centres of Machico and Caniçal and Ponta de São Lourenço are close and definitely worth a visit.

From here you drive to Calheta Beach for 2 Nights at Aparthotel Paul do Mar

The best way to go to Calheta Beach is along the south coast. Pass Funchal, then the charming fishing village of Câmara de Lobos and make a stop at the very impressive Cabo Girão (the second highest cliff in the world, 580m high). The following stop could be Ribeira Brava, a bustling city by the sea with a nice little market where you’ll find fresh fruit and flowers. Ponta do Sol (‘Sun Point’), and Madalena do Mar are the parishes that you will pass on the way to Calheta Beach.


From here you will go to Funchal to stay 3 Nights at the Quinta Perestrello

On your way back you can take again the route you followed going to Calheta Beach or drive along the north coast passing through Ponta do Pargo, Porto Moniz, Seixal, São Vicente. If you followed – as we suggested - the old roads to Paul do Mar, we would recommend you to experience a short trip on the motorway to Funchal and be impressed by the many tunnels men had cut in the rocks.
Once in Funchal take your time and explore the cultural and historical nucleus of the city, do some shopping, go out for evening meals or just relax in one of the many ‘by the sea’ bars.
