Pick up your car at the airport on your arrival
Drive to the north of the island to a village called Santana for 2 nights at the Quinta do Furão
On your way to Santana visit the fishing town of Machico, Porto da Cruz with its unique winemaking tradition and the rough, mountainous Faial. Exploring this amazing area means having the chance to enjoy breathtaking views and some of the best mountain and levada walks. In Santana you cant miss the typical thatched houses and the incredible landscapes dominated by the lush green that characterises the Laurissilva Forest. Nearby youll find the road to Queimadas, the starting point for one of the most popular levada walks, the so-called Caldeirão Verde.
From here drive to the west of the island for 2 nights at the Estalagem da Ponta do Sol
To Ponta do Sol you can drive through São Jorge and Arco de São Jorge, heading to Ponta Delgada and then to the charming village of São Vicente. There is a new tunnel between São Vicente and Encumeada but we suggest you take the old road, winding through enchanted landscapes and with viewpoints where you will enjoy amazing views over the Encumeada and Serra dÁgua areas. Ribeira Brava is a bustling city by the sea with a nice little market where youll find fresh fruit and flowers.
From Ponta do Sol (literally Sun Point) you can easily reach Paul da Serra and its beautiful landscapes and levadas, Porto Monizs natural swimming pools and the man-made sand beach at Calheta.
From here you will come to your last stop with 3 Nights at the Tivoli Ocean Park Hotel
The trip to Funchal, the capital of Madeira Island, is a lot shorter nowadays because of the many tunnels and new roads that were built to link several parishes and cities. But once again, we suggest you follow the old roads if you want to get in touch with the real local life and culture. Leaving Ponta do Sol, if you follow our suggestion, you will pass Ribeira Brava, Campanário and the incredible Cabo Girão (the second highest cliff in the world, 580m high) and finally the charming city of Câmara de Lobos where youll be able to taste the typical drink poncha.
In Funchal you can go at your own pace. You can either be as busy as you wish with a wide selection of bars, restaurants and shops or you can just sit by the pool and relax in the sun. Why not take an evening stroll after dinner on the 5 km promenade just outside your hotel?
